Harvard Study: Eating Nuts May Make You Live Longer
Go ahead, enjoy some mixed nuts! In a recent article, published by New England Journal of Medicine, it was stated that, “regular nut eaters were less likely to die of cancer or heart disease – in fact, were less likely to die of any cause – during a 30-year Harvard study.”
A total of 119,000 men and women were in on the study and consumed nuts daily. During the study, those who ate nuts were 20% less likely to die. That alone should coax you to eat more nuts! But if that doesn’t convince you then get this; heart disease decreased by 29% and the risk of dying of cancer fell by 11%. And an extra bonus, the nut eaters stayed slimmer.
It has been studied that in nuts, the unsaturated fatty acids, minerals and other nutrients lower cholesterol, inflammation and overall boost one’s health. “We’re seeing benefits of nut consumption on cardiovascular disease as well as body weight and diabetes,” says Kris-Etherton.
So the next time you are making a salad, add some nuts. And the next time you are consuming yogurt with fruit, add some nuts! You get the point, your health is on the line.
